A caged bird beating against the wire,
aiming high for a wild desire.
It throws its wings at the ceiling’s crown,
fighting to break the roof beams down.
It bloodies its chest at the tip of its age,
looking for light at the peak of the cage.
But the breakthrough isn’t up at the top;
the ceiling is where the illusions stop.
You have to look down from the frantic height,
past the panic and past the fight.
For the hinges rest where the floorboards meet,
the open door is at your feet.
