my eyes are
      at the tree line,
      at the prairie’s edge.

little movements,

and all stillness

the winds will shift and carry the rattle,
the spook of the sandhill cranes.

as night settles,
eyes wide to starlight and
nothing else.

where do you bury the sunlight,                                                  the little bit
tucked in your lip?
