                                            A Ghazal For My Friend
Been too long since I've had you in my sight,
I'll have to find some reason to call you tonight.

Heavy-poured drink and nothing but dancing will get me,
3-1 odds I'll use that as my reason to call you tonight.

For the new year, we swore we’d start a book club,
but will you have it read by the time I call you tonight?

I'm so sorry but I’m having a really tough time,
thanks for leaving the dinner just so I could call you tonight.

Oh what use do I have for excuses or reasons?
Lord knows I never need one to call you tonight.
